The holiday season is one of the most exciting times of the year that I always look forward to.

Even though I live in a country where Christmas is not a mainstream festival, it is still celebrated joyfully!

Growing up, I was in a Christian school, so a lot of importance was given to this time of year.

It was one of the best times for us as kids in school. None of us would study; we spent all our time decorating—from our classroom to the halls and every corner.

We had dance competitions and so many endless fun activities.

Every time I think about Christmas, I feel nostalgic about those times I spent in school.

Even after years of leaving high school, I want to keep my holiday spirit alive and continue traditions among my friends whenever I can.

Each year, it feels so good to be a part of the holiday spirit.

Despite all that fun, I can understand how stressful and hectic it can be. It’s easy to miss out on important tasks in the midst of the celebrations.

This post is exactly what it’s about: helping you ease into and prepare for the holidays in advance!

I’m sharing 17 non-negotiable things to do before the holidays that will keep you organized and ready to celebrate instead of worrying about what’s left to do!

But first, pin it for later!

17 non-negotiable things to do before the holidays

Here’s a checklist to help you prepare and ensure a stress-free season! I have divided the post into three sections to ensure that, apart from planning, you also take time to recharge yourself!

Pre-planning:

1. Budget setting for the holidays

This is honestly the first and foremost step we need to consider. It is easy to get caught up in the holiday spirit and overspend.

There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself and others, but we don’t want to regret it later by thinking we spent way too much!

So, create a budget for yourself, set a certain amount aside, and decide that this is all the money you will be spending for the entire holiday celebration!

2. Make a shopping list as per your budget:

Once your budget is set, it’s easy to make a list of things you need to shop for and spend on.

Choose items that are within your overall budget, and avoid wasting money on unnecessary things!

3. Gift Shopping

This is the most crucial part: once you have your budget and shopping list ready, you can start gift shopping for your friends and family accordingly!

It’s such a fun process to shop for gifts and think about the items that will make them happy!

4. Revamp your home in holiday theme!

To start the Christmas vibes early, why wait for Christmas? Add festive touches to create a cozy atmosphere in your home!

  • Decide on a color palette or theme—traditional red and green, winter wonderland, rustic, or modern metallics!
  • Opt for exterior decorations like wreaths, lights, and other home décor!
  • Set up the Christmas tree and add ornaments everywhere.
  • Change your bedding and add scented candles or diffusers
